Guitar Workshop: Chord Substitutions for Songwriters

Sick of all your songs sounding the same? Stuck in the G, C, D rut? I feel your pain! You can take your songs to the next level by bringing more color and more depth to them with chord substitutions. I was stuck in a pretty bad rut with my guitar playing and songwriting until I took my stuff to my musician friend and guitar instructor, Mark Dee, who helped me bring new life to my songs with a few new chords. I haven't looked back since! And now we are teaming up to bring you our first Chord Substitution Workshop! You will leave this class with chord charts and a working knowledge of how to substitute new chords with chords you already know, as well as a knowledge of blues and jazz progressions for songwriting.

DATE:
Monday March 15, 2010 6:00-7:30pm OR Saturday March 20, 1:30-3pm. Same class, just two different time offerings.
WHERE: 2411 Kiesel Ave Suite 312 in Ogden 84401

Songwriting and the Creative Spirit

Exploring Your Creative Spirit through Songwriting

This class is about connecting with your creative spirit through songwriting. It's about freeing yourself of yourself so you can laugh, feel exhilarated, and plunge into the depths of your creativity! It's about finding YOUR own creative voice, writing with YOUR words, in YOUR style.

Class Topics

I believe that understanding your own individual creative process and creative hang-ups is just as important to writing a song as knowing how to write a good song is to writing a song. During this experiential class we will explore what compels us to write, what to write about, and how to keep the inspiration and idea well primed. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

Creative myths and how to debunk them
The State of your life=the state of your songs
Emotional Honesty and Authenticity in your songs
Putting your mark on a song: what you bring to the table that no one else can
Learning to trust that what you have to say is good
Components of a song and how to make them work for you

This is a five week course with a small number of students, allowing for an intimately effective learning environment. You will get to know your class members well and encourage and support each other in your creative discoveries.

Date and Time

Class will start the beginning of February and go for 5 weeks. If you are interested in this course (and you probably know whether it is for you or not by the stirrings in your gut), please let me know what times you CAN meet for class. I will determine our meeting time based on who is available when.

Saturdays 2:00pm
Tuesdays 7:15pm
Wednesdays 6:00pm
Mondays 6:00pm
Mondays 7:00pm

Class will run for 60-90minutes each week

Location
In my studio, downtown Ogden. 2411 Kiesel Ave Suite 312.

Payment
Here's the best part. . .you get to choose how much you pay for this class. You determine your payment amount based on the sliding scale of $60--$150. Why? Because money is different for everyone, and I don't want someone not to take the class because they can't afford it. It's hard for me to set a price that is equally meaningful for everyone. You know your money situation better than I do. As a guideline, I suggest you pay enough so that you feel invested in the class. I want you to value it and not feel like you are getting something for free or for cheap. But don't pay too much so that it strains you, or that you feel regretful.

Registration
If this class is for you, email me with the following
1. Why you feel this class fits for you (unless we have already had a private conversation about it)
2. Times that are good for you based on the above listed. I will be choosing the class time based on when the most people can come.
3. How much you will be paying

Looking forward to some exciting creativity ahead!
